We’re excited to reveal our plans for the launch of a new Warehouse module to sit alongside our class-leading Bulk Planning application. The new module will provide the capability to define storage locations within multiple warehouses, allowing the movement of casks between warehouses and locations, and also cater for the quarantining of casks.

Further features will include the definition of vats and to record dumping into vat, cask filling from vat, vat-to-vat movements and cask-to-cask movements. The recording of cask and vat quantity updates resulting from dipping will also be included. All movements and adjustments will subsequently be available for enquiry, audit and statutory reporting purposes.

The recording of stock movements etc. will be performed on back office PCs or on Android handheld devices, allowing on-the-spot updates, giving operators clear information that is always up-to-date.

The addition of this new Warehouse module will make our Bulk Planning application an even more attractive option to small [...]

Barrels

Here at SpiritPro, it’s easy to get lost in the world of software development for the planning of bulk spirit and to feel somewhat far removed from the process of transforming simple raw materials into wonderfully complex spirits. It therefore came as an overdue reminder of the dedication of all involved in the spirits supply chain to immerse myself in the wonderful sights, smells and tastes of the spirits world on a recent trip to the Cognac region of France.

Whilst there, I had the pleasure of visiting Tonnellerie Allary, a company that has been manufacturing oak barrels for the last 70 years. It was fascinating to watch how the barrels are made by hand, using a process that has been pretty much unchanged since the family company was started in 1953.

The oak staves (merrains) are aged for 2 years at the tonnellerie before [...]

STATIC DATA Different spirits can be defined as unique Parts, further classified by Part Type (e.g. single spirit, married spirit, finished spirit or bottled stock), Spirit Type (e.g. single malt, blended malt, single grain, blended grain) and Region (e.g. lowland, highland, Speyside etc.) Multiple versions of a Formula can be defined for finished spirit and bottled stock Parts, detailing the one or more Formula Components that go to make up the spirit. A Part Ageing Profile can be defined for a single spirit Part, defining the ageing process on a year-by-year basis, in terms of specific Cask Types. The cost of re-racking from one cask type to another can also be defined. Anticipated re-racking costs are automatically included in forecasts of future lot values. Casks can be defined at a high level as Wood Groups (e.g. hogshead, puncheon), and also at a detailed level as specific Cask Types (e.g. 1st fill hogshead, 2nd fill hogshead). A standard capacity can be defined for each Wood Group. Bonded warehouses can be defined as Bonds. Representative percentage evaporation estimates can be defined down to the level of Bond and Wood Group by year. Anticipated evaporatio [...]
